Broadcast Rentals Celebrates 15 Years of Service

One of our first rental cameras,
Sony BVP-70IS
The last 15 years have certainly been an adventure.

It all started with two Betacams, a Sony 70IS and a 537A, and a few accessories housed in a 100sq.ft. bedroom in our house.

It has turned into HD cameras, decks, lenses, video projectors, editors, engineering equipment and the list goes on and on.
Thankfully we are no longer working out of our house, but have grown into two warehouses in two different cities - Tempe and San Diego.
It has been a great experience. From our very first customer, Honeywell, to each one of you, we have been so lucky to work with skilled clients who are passionate about their business and produce quality products. Our commitment to you continues to be to provide you with the type of service you deserve every day, at any time.
One of our HD Cameras, Sony HDWF900-R
Our family has grown to include dedicated employees who helped to make it happen. People like Dave Veatch, the very first addition to our family, and Ray Pernot, who served as our General Manager for many years, and many others who spent countless hours making sure that the equipment was ready and working and your needs were taken care of. We have over 150 years of video experience available to help you.

In Phoenix Ned, Earl, Walter, Aaron, Marcia and Jesus are ready to make it happen and in San Diego you can call on Michael Jones, Michael Stewart, Dustin and Bernie.

When we started we never imagined that Broadcast Rentals would become the company it has. We appreciate your support and commitment over the years in helping us build the company. Thank you for letting us assist you in telling your stories on video.

Oz and Deborah

Panasonic HPX 500

Broadcast Rentals' latest addition, the Panasonic HPX500 is a 2/3" 3-CCD 16:9 P2 HD Camcorder with CineGammaTM Software and IEEE 1394 Interface.

The camcorder delivers a unique combination of high-end features never offered in a camcorder in this genre, including production-quality 2/3" progressive 3-CCDs, DVCPRO HD quality, multi HD and SD formats, variable frame rates, and four independent audio channels. In addition, the HPX500 offers the outstanding benefits of P2 solid state recording including ultra-fast IT workflow and no-moving-parts reliability, which makes the camera ideal for use in harsh environments.

At only 8.2 pounds, the HPX500 features a high-performance digital signal processor (DSP) with 14-bit A/D conversion and 19-bit processing that handles HD/SD format conversion simultaneously -- ensuring spectacular images in all video formats for applications ranging from news acquisition, independent filmmaking, corporate video, sports and much more.

According to Earl Sisson of Broadcast Rentals, "The HPX500 makes a beautiful picture. It has 4 card slots, a full range of interchangeable lenses, Anton Bauer battery power, and an impressive 2/3" imaging chipset. Anyone who has used the HVX200 will feel right at home with the HPX500, as it uses the same ergonomic interface and menu structure as its little brother."

Zacuto Camera Systems
The Zacuto system is a precision-crafted rod system to allow or facilitate the mounting and use of professional tools and accessories to smaller camera platforms like the Panasonic HVX-200.

With this modular system the operator can build their camera to suit their needs and wants. Add a Chrosziel 2 stage matt box and a geared Chrosziel follow focus with a whip. If you want to add electronic accessories like a small flat screen color monitor, an AJA converter box, a FS-100 Firestore, a Zaxcom wireless audio camera link, a WEVI wireless video monitor link or just an on-camera eye light; they can all be powered by an on-board Anton Bauer or IDX Endura battery.

Now you want to go handheld? Simply and quickly attach the Zgrips with a Varizoom zoom/focus/iris controller. Now for comfort and balance add the offset and shoulder pad so you are looking comfortably in the eye cup.

The Zacuto System is a fast and efficient way to elevate your production value and shooting style to the highest level possible. And it is available at Broadcast Rentals.

Faces Behind the Service
At Broadcast Rentals, superior service is only as good as the people who deliver it. To this end we are proud to feature team members from our Phoenix and San Diego offices.
Ned Traver, Phoenix office

Born in Davenport, Iowa, Ned's family moved to Phoenix at the young age of two and he has enjoyed living in Phoenix since.

Prior to joining Broadcast Rentals, Ned was an independent freelance location sound mixer and audio engineer. Clients include NBC, ABC, ESPN, CBS, CNN & FOX networks and independent production companies.
In addition to his sound expertise, Ned has 35 years of experience as a Production Manager/Producer, Post Production manger and Senior Editor, EFP Sound and VTR Technician and Technical Director.

"I joined Broadcast Rentals because I have always been a fan...since they started the company out of their home. Service is second nature to me and is integral to the philosophy at Broadcast Rentals. With years of experience behind me, I try to help customers not make some of the same mistakes that I have been through".

Ned's official title is Operations Manager. In his own words, "I am a part of a highly talented pool of individuals. We are all responsible for customer service and as a team we deliver the highest level of service available in the industry. This is a much more exciting place to work than perhaps people may think that it is….we really hustle to pull the right gear together and get it to the people when they need it. It is a great time to be in this business …the technology is always changing..I learn new things almost every day".

Ned's favorite film: "Young Frankenstein ...although I do like Chick Flicks as well...there are so many different films that I enjoy".

Favorite hobbies: "Tinkering with mechanical things and I like to go on road trips with my wife and my dog".

Ray Pernot , Phoenix office

We would like to thank Ray Pernot for many, many years of hard work and dedication. He has left Broadcast Rentals in order to pursue other endeavors. We will miss him dearly, but wish him well in his new adventures.

The BestFest America Student Film Festival

Broadcast Rentals San Diego recently participated in the BestFest America Student Film Festival over the weekend of Aug. 16-17. The Festival featured some 90 films, which were judged by three different panels and selected from over 500 entries.

During the 2-day event, Broadcast Rentals had a selection of HD cameras, lighting kits and ENG audio kits on display for the students to see and touch. “We were careful to explain that the cameras (SONY F900 and Panasonic HVX200A) were probably overkill for use on the average student film, but they were here to show what is currently used in the industry.”

Broadcast Rental’s participation
in the Festival was the idea of Michael Jones, the new Director of Marketing for San Diego.

Michael said, “Part of our jobs as professionals is to mentor those that will replace us.
This was a golden opportunity to speak to not only student filmmakers, but to film and media instructors and parents about the Broadcast Rentals mantra of STAY LEAN-THINK RENT.”
