Optics
Glass.

It’s so common,we often take it for granted.

From the simplicity of a pair of eyeglasses to the complexity of an orbiting telescope, glass plays a major role in how we conduct our daily business.
If your “daily business” involves film or video production, then you probably already know how critical it is to have a “good piece of glass” at your disposal.

Fujinon, Canon, Leica, and Schneider are some of the “big guns” that film makers and videographers consider when looking for the best lenses for their cameras.

The lens is the first line of defense in acquiring the finest images possible.
No matter how fantastic the other aspects of the camera system may be, if the lens is sub-standard, then it stands to reason that the pictures that the camera makes will also be sub-standard.

Modern film and video lenses are more complex than the proverbial “Swiss watch.” It is not uncommon for such lenses to have up to thirty five different internal elements! Zoom lenses operate by making groups of elements move in harmony. Those elements are usually coated with some exotic substances which have been formulated to optimize the performance of the glass. It is a given that computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing techniques are vital to the production of these lenses.

Faces Behind the Service
At Broadcast Rentals, superior service is only as good as the people who deliver it. To this end we are proud to feature team members from our Phoenix and San Diego offices.
Walter Dutra, Phoenix office

Walter is originally from Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Prior to joining Broadcast Rentals, Walter worked for several east coast facilities, starting off as a projectionist with Nickelodeon cinemas in Boston.

His studies in radio and television landed him a position as Maintenance Engineer with WUHF in Rochester, New York. With 4-years of experience at WUHF Walter moved on to WQTV in Boston as Maintenance Engineer.
Walter's next stint for 6 years was at Target Television Productions, as Chief Engineer. He then joined WBZ in Boston as Maintenance Engineer.

Prior to joining Broadcast Rentals, Walter was Maintenance Engineer at KSAZ, TV Fox 10 for 12 years.

According to Walter, …"My broadcast engineering background has given me a very broad range of experiences...installation, maintenance and repair of all major systems and components in a broadcast television facility, from cameras to transmitters...helicopter support equipment to graphics."

"Over the years at KSAZ, I have worked with Broadcast Rentals on a freelance basis and know what a great group of people they are. The move to come and work full time at Broadcast Rentals was a logical step.

All of us here share the same philosophy of service; to be available for anyone who has a question, and to solve problems as quickly as possible.

The customer will know that the equipment is ready to go and he or she will have a quality piece of equipment for their rental. And, if they do have problems, we are available 24/7 to help them out."

Walter's favorite film: …"That's a tough to say...having been a projectionist, I’ve seen many many good films; don’t know if I can pick one!"

Favorite hobbies; "I am a private pilot, doing that for a number of years. I love to take people for rides, visiting other airports and camping. I've flown to many places…from New England to the Grand Canyon...to Mexico. One of my favorite experiences was a cross-country airplane trip camping along the way."

Walter is married and the proud father of 3 children...and 5 grandchildren.
